Current research investigates the intersections between new media, improvisation and music collectivism. More generally, I am interested in examining how cultural signifiers including gender, race and ethnicity impact performance practice especially in the fields of jazz, crossover and transnational popular music. I also examine globalization’s impact upon European popular musics and in particular upon the organization, promotion and musical reception of popular music festivals in Northern Europe.
